Courses Fall 2009
ART & DESIGN, A.A. DEGREE at HCC
It’s official. The Visual Communications and Fine Arts degrees have merged and are now the ART & DESIGN, A.A. degree. This Associate of Arts degree has separate tracks in Graphic Design, Digital Arts and Fine Arts. Students take a common foundations semester and then choose their concentration. New courses such as Art 160 Time Based Media, Art 131 Digital Imaging 1 and Art 233 Portfolio Workshop have been added to the degree, as well as Advanced Studio Course Options in the final semester giving students more choice between 200 level studio courses depending on where they want to transfer.
Students now interested in studying Graphic Design have an accredited A.A program which transfers well into other 4-year Graphic Design programs in the region. The Digital Arts track lays the foundation for transfer into 4- year programs such as Digital Arts and Design at Towson University and UMBC’s Visual Arts B.A. program.
STUDENTstock
New this semester is StudentStock, a student-run image and design house with a growing database of artwork, illustration, photography and design created by students and available for use to the Harford Community by way of Creative Commons licensing.
If you are interested in becoming part of this group, please contact Prof. Kenneth Jones.

Kickball For Art Team Photo
May 2008
VC in Red/Fine Art & Photo Green
The first Kickball for Art Game was a huge success ! On the rainwashed synthentic turf, The VC squad, led by students Tim Browning and Amy McConaughy, took an early lead and then held off a furious charge by the Fi-Artographers to win handily. When asked the final score, El Pollo Diablo, from the VC squad (shown above with the red ball) said while balancing a clove cigarette between his blistered and chapped lips, “it was many, many to very, very few.”
Everyone had a great time, as we raised funds for the Student Art Purchase award which was presented to Heather Donahue (see Heather’s work below) and Greg Molnar. Their work will become part of the HCC collection and on-view in Joppa Hall.
