The Visual Communications program’s home is in newly renovated Joppa Hall.  Studios and labs include forty-five workstations with Apple Macintosh G5 computers 21” and 24” LCD monitors on special Anthro workstations.  All of the industry standard software is included on each workstation such as:  Adobe Creative Suite 3 Design Premium Edition, Quark 7, Final Cut Pro, Motion, After Effects, DVD Studio Pro, Dreamweaver, Poser, and Flash to name a few.

Digital labs include 10 scanners, 6 high-end imaging devices {both color laser and inkjet), digital video and still cameras, projectors, DVCAM and sound recording equipment.    Students enjoy a fully networked wireless lab, building and campus, with dedicated student servers and FTP access.  Offsite media storage is housed on Apple XServes and a dedicated Art Kiosk and 30’ viewing wall showcase recent student work, developments and opportunities.

Open labs are monitored seven days a week by student Mac Lab monitors. VC/Digital Arts majors benefit directly from the collaborative spirit of the open lab and studio environment.  The program assistant helps with special needs giving individualized or group tutoring or help with hardware, software and design processes.


Each Spring, students prepare for the annual juried student exhibitions at the Chesapeake Gallery located on campus in the award winning Student Center building, and can organize their own exhibitions in the Joppa Hall Student Gallery run by the Student Art Gallery Association.
